Interim Executive Board
appointed at The Phoenix School
Peterborough City Council has been given permission by the Government to appoint an interim executive board (IEB) to replace the governing body at The Phoenix Special School in Orton Goldhay.
The decision to apply for an IEB has been supported by the headteacher Charlotte Whysall.
The IEB is in response to concerns over the past year about staff recruitment, which was confirmed by the findings of the September 2019 Ofsted inspection at the school. The IEB will now take on the accountabilities of the governing body, which includes looking after the school’s budget and other responsibilities around the curriculum and staffing, pay and performance management.
Jonathan Lewis, service director for education for Peterborough City Council, said:
“The driving force behind the action we are taking is the desire to ensure that every pupil at The Phoenix School receives a good standard of education and is given the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
The Interim Board of the Phoenix School has the following members:
Diane Rochford OBE (Ofsted inspector and SEND consultant)
Toni Bailey (Assistant Director for SEND and Inclusion Peterborough & Cambridgeshire)
Sheralee Webb (Executive Headteacher, Northgate School Arts College)
Mike Kendall (National Governance Lead)
Despina Kaoura (Social Care Manager- Cambridgeshire)
Gary Pocock (CEO, Lime Trust)
